Google Earth to BSB / KAP

I have a new version of GE2KAP that needs some testing, would appreciate if someone could test it.

It has two big enhancements:

1. Some navigation programs like RayTech require the input ..kap files to have embedded polynomial (PWX,PWY,WPX WPY) calibration data in the .kap header and also a .BSB file. This version of GE2KAP will now always create the polys and also optionally create the BSB file (its an option in third panel)

2. GE2KAP will now accept as input Geotiff and GeoPDF files that have embedded geo-reference data. So you can either create charts from them or overlay them on GE and create a chart.

I tested the new version and it works, just not at 1920x1080. Are there any tricks to get that to work, or is that resolution just not going to ever be supported?

Hi,

Thanks for testing and feedback. We found some problems there will be a new version soon.

As for 1920x1080, sometimes windows does not pass me the correct resolution when its this value. I think it has something with the display driver, not sure. But anyway 1366X768 seems to work well, don't think you could tell the difference.

Ooops Valhalla found an error with V18.0.0.0 creating chart from a Ge0Tiff.

Have now replaced it with V18.0.0.1

Double oops, as with any big change had another problem. Unable to create a chart from SasPlanet. New version 18.0.0.2 get it from the Downloads page at:

Hi, wanted to report that I have successfully created an overlay using 18.0.0.2, importing a French SHOM GeoTIFF official raster map. Aligns perfectly, no hands! Had to reduce the display resolution to 1366X768, otherwise failed while trying to turn off the status line in GE (7.1.5.1557) several times. OpenCPN GE plugin started to work again after this update.

Also, can you give me the link that you got that French Geotiff. May come in handy when I'm in Paris in a few weeks.

I am having a problem with GE2KAP. When I open the program to do an overlay I get the following error:

PGMNAME program error!
ERROR: SYNTAX occured at line 9290
Content of line:

ERROREXT:Execution error

I am using OpenCPN 4.0, GE 7.1 and GE2KAP 18.0

The error occurs as GE2KAP is loading GE. I recently changed to Windows 10 since the last time I used GE2KAP. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing all the above programs and oorex as well, file extensions are turned on.

Any ideas?

Mike,

This means you have gone to a version of Google Earth that no longer has the API used by GE2KAP. The upgrade can happen automatically.

As documented in the Help Prerequisites:

3. Google Earth
GE2KAP supports Google Earth or Goggle Earth Pro from V5.1 BUT versions higher than V7.1.2 no longer have the application programming interface (API) required to run GE2KAP.
If you have installed GE V7.1.4 or higher you have two choices: 1. Uninstall the newer version and install an older version that still has the API.
You can get copy of GE Pro V7.1.2 from my website by clicking on this link:

When you install it, it will ask for your email address and a license code, use "gepfree" (without the quotes).
At the end of the install, terminate google earth then start GE2KAP and it will restart it.
2. Run a fix that restores the API on the new version.

Unzip it some directory like: C:\GE_Fix
the unzip password is: phiggins
Follow the instructions in the README.txt.

Hi Phil,
I uninstalled GE then installed the version from your website. Once installed I closed GE then started GE2KAP but it does not start GE. If I try to create a chart I get the message 'No charts were created' in the dialogue box. If I have GE running when I start GE2KAP I get the following error message:

PGMNAME program error! OK to terminal
ERROR: SYNTAX occurred at line:16432
Content of line:
rc = self (tilda) Check_Bars()
ERRORTEXT:Object method not found

Did I mess up somewhere?

Please reproduce the error then email the GE2KAP.log file (it will be the last modified file in the directory where GE2KAP is installed. My email is in the Help

Mike are you sure you are using GE2KAP.V18.0.0.2? The problem sounds like what you would get from an older version.

Phil,
You are right. I had downloaded V18.0.0.2 but the icon in my toolbar was still linked to version 16 so that while I thought I was using the new version I was in fact using the old version. Once I deleted the old version and updated the shortcut all has been well.
