Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

beauty with Obeta on XP..

By the way, don't know if it's been mentioned before, but GE2Kap works fine for me when the rex stuff is just copied to the GE2Kap folder. No "install" was needed. All I had to do after copying the rex package was double click ge2kap.rex and then get windows to "open with" rexxc.exe.
so, the whole GE2Kap package is somewhat portable and I don't have all those Rexx shortcuts on my menu...

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

It's time to put the plugin on the OpenCPN plugin download list

What say, Paul?

Yes, the dll and the rest of the pack.
After several tests, one needs the last version of GE, at least 6.0.
If do not work you must uninstall GE ant install it once again.

Thanks Paul

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

Thanks for the feedback guys. It works for me on Windows 8 too.

I don't think its necessary to put the ge2kap plugin on the plugin download list as its shipped with GE2KAP and only those who have GE2KAP need it. Also GE2KAP and the ge2kap plugin need to be in sync. GE2KAP checks the version of the plugin when it runs and will fail if it doesn't find the right version of the plugin.

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

I am thinking about dropping the old OCR opencpn process and making the ge2kap plugin mandatory. Right now if the plugin is not installed or disabled, GE2KAP will use the old OCR process.

Any thoughts on that?

I don't understand what you're saying here - could you please spell it out in words of one syllable? I have used GE2KAP in its former guise with much success.

Sounds like a good idea.

Guide to using GE2KAP for overlay charts

Just posted an update to Creating a KAP chart overlaid with GE image (using OpenCPN and GE2KAP) here.

A Word document of that page can be downloaded here.

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

I am using Chart Navigator Pro and It does not display the KAP file. I do see an square border of the area that seems to be respondign the the area converted from GE.
Do I also need a BSB file? Seems that every KAP file in my chart directory has an associated bsb file.

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

hoolie,

If you are making a chart from the chart displayed on opencpn there are now two ways that GE2KAP gets the lat/lon of the chart on opencpn. If you have the ge2kap plugin installed on OpenCPN it uses it, if not it uses a process I called Optical Character Recognition (OCR) where move the cursor to the four corners of the OpeCPN chart window and reads the lat/lon in the status bar. The OCR process has proved to be very error prone and depends on the OpenCPN folks not changing the status bar. So I would like to drop the OCR process and just us the plugin.

phorvati,

I have not tried Chart Navigator Pro but usually its sufficient to have only the KAP file. Have you tried the chart on OpenCPN or SeaClear? If not send me the kap file and I will try it.

yachtvalhalla,

Thanks for the document will have a look at it and give you some feedback.

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

OpenCPN 3.1.919 Beta, Logbook 1.1, recent GE2KAP on WIN7U64:

If logbook is on (even in background) generating chart from GE, GE2KAP insists to see the logbook as chart. This is annoying under way as I have to close the logbook, then everything works fine - but no logbook.

Else new GE2KAP is simply GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!! Congratulations!!!!!!

P.S. filling the forms in background, would this speed up the process? Anyway, DAU like me can only watch deeply impressed ;-)

blubaju,

A bit confused by this. What logbook are you talking about? Can you provide a screenshot of the problem?

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

Terry from Valhalla pointed me to your great plugin, thanks both!

Logbook is from Konni, download page for plugins for OpenCPN. I made several GE-charts before I left Davao, the "simplified" way and the transparent overlay over the OpenCPN chart. Both worked fine, of course, in the marina the logbook is off.

Under way we decided to change the overnight stop, luckily we had reception and GE2KAP was in use again, as already usual I make at least 2 charts, one plain GE, one GE-overlay over openCPN. This time Konni Logbook plugin running

GE-only chart was fine, then I started the second, GE-Overlay to openCPN, big my surprise when instead of the openCPN chart the logbook page popped up in the insert-window, the one with the green markers to adjust the position. I killed the logbook and everything went fine again.

This can be repeated, I just made the screenshot ;-)

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

blubaju,

I have the konni logbook installed and it doesn't happen for me.

Could you go to the GE window and make sure there is nothing overlayed already and also make sure the OpenCPN window is only displaying a chart then...

I would like you to recreate the problem and then email me the GE2KAP.log and the OpenCPN.log .

email: phiggin()gmn-usa.com change the () to you know what.

Thanks
