Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

I have been trying to break the latest release on XP and 7 using 6.1 and 6.2 for the last couple of days. Even on dual monitors.

I had one hiccup using a polygon on the slow XP machine but restarted it and it finished.

Please forward my heart felt gratitude for this programming gem to Whitey!

I do have a request hidden in a question. Is it possible to turn off the GE dependence if only using GE2KAP for processing calibrations?

Thanks for the feedback Jim. Was that version 9.2.8 that you were testing? I think I sent it to you instead of yachtvalhalla.

Can you explain further about your request "Is it possible to turn off the GE dependence if only using GE2KAP for processing calibrations" .

Yes, 9.2.8

If I am processing calibrations only, no overlays in GE, I check the "Create kap from overlay. Do not use GE" box. With this checked, GE2KAP still needs GE open to operate. If it were a real switch and turned off the GE dependency, it might help those with low resource machines who are only processing calibrations.

Its no big deal, just an idea to complicate your life

Hi Paul,

I use the programs you tell us about and it works great ... but how do we add a transparent with the CM93 chartdepth readings and other navigation data?
Any tutorial how to easily do that?

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

Surveyor, GE2KAP has to have GE to calibrate a chart, that is what it uses to check the accuracy of the chart.

lucseawalker, have you looked at the Help "Overlaying/Creating Chart of OpenCPN". It explains how to take the chart on OpenCPN, which can be CM93, and overlay it on GE.

If anyone else is having a problem with the latest version on small computers, send me an email and I'll send you a newer version that Surveyor and yachtvalhalla say works. I won't upload it until I get the French updates to the Help.

GE2KAP ==> GE2KMZ ???

Hi Paul/phiggins

SethDart has written a new plug-in for OpenCPN, it allows for a kml/kmz overlay. This overlay can be just simple waypoints, lines polygons, but is also can contain a GE image, properly calibrated. The plugin is able to display the kml/kmz transparently on the chart.
Looking at yachtvalhalla's howto, to create a transparent GE overlay on the chart, I think, it would be beneficial to have this done in the plugin instead:
  • No static KAPs containing an image of chart + GE image.
  • With the plug-in we can keep GE images separate from the chart, the plugin deals with the transparent overlay.

To make this practical, SethDart suggests a tool GE2KMZ/GE2KML. In GE2KAP, you already deal with taking GE screenshots, calibrating the image. Could you envision to add the described to GE2KAP? Or create a GE2KMZ tool?

Let me ponder it.

The problem I have with adding a new function in GE2KAP (or writing a new tool) is that Google is dropping support for their COM API into GE. They already dropped one function in GE 6.2 but I found a way around. In future releases they may drop the whole API. I may have to revert to their java script support.

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

I just uploaded a new version V9.2.12 that fixes a few problems with smaller computers.

You can get it at www.gdayii.ca if you can get past Whitey.

Paul,

Thanks for the new version. Working well on both Windows 7 Ultimate and Windows XP on 32-bit netbooks.

Give Whitey a pat on the head.

Ami,

Did you turn off "Clear Text" as stated in the Help ?

If not, turn it off, delete the cmparry.arr and retry.

Else send me an email and I'll send a newer version that my correct your problem. email: phiggins()gmn-usa.com (replace the () with you know what).
