Finally I had time to test GE2KAP. And it worked fine, after a couple of attempts mainly due to previous installations of libbsb and Imagemagick. After I re-installed those it worked fine, even with oorexx 4.1.0 (the newest).

Attached an example in Opencpn. Please note that I have a transparent chart (JPG-image) on top of the GE satellite image. A standard feature of GE. That gives extra information about depths and all other navigation relevant information.

It's quite interesting, I think.

This is such a great thread.

Overlaying a transparency of a jpeg in GE and then running the whole thing in Open CPN. That's just such a great answer to my problem (sailing in the Philipines where no accurate electronic charts exist)

Thanks very, very much guys - that is so cool

I wish I was clever

Hi Tore

It's all done in GE, and no technical knowledge required. You need a chart in e.g. JPG-format. I guess BMP, Gif, tiff and more would do the same. Then in GE you zoom into the area where your chart covers and enter 'Tilføj'(Add/insert?), 'Billedoverlejring' (Pictureoverlay?) and enter the link for the JPG-image in 'Søg' (Search?). 'Gennemsigtighed'(Transparency) can adjust the degree of transparency and in 'Placering' (Geocoordinates??) you enter the exact coordinates of the picture. You can also adjust the position of the picture visually by stretching and moving. So you dont even need to know the exact geocoordinates.

GE2KAP will catch everything on the screen and create KAP-files of it. In the explorer panel of GE the display of the charts can be set on or off.

God fornøjelse!

/Ole

Yes it's the free version, mine is 6.0.0.1735 (Beta), but it has been there for long and also in previous free versions. You can delete the charts again, or stretch, skew and move the chart by selecting it on the explorer panel. 'Properties' shows all information.

Not quite

OK, this is what I have onscreen in GE.
But when I open GE2KAP, it complains that it cannot find the jpg file I have added in GE.
If I put the jpg file in the KAP folder in GE2KAP, it creates a kap file of the jpg file. The end result is this

idpnd:Linux version(s)?

I wish I could create a Linux version but Linux doesn't have an active-x interface (as far as I know) which is what I use to access google earth.

Sorry

BTW: For the Windows Users, DON"T FORGET to turn off Terrain in Google Earth when using GE2KAP or the Georeferening may not be accurate on the chart produced.
