jimthom,

WindowsNT 5.01 is XP.

Did you notice whether on GE if it brought up the Save As window?

Also, while in GE if you press CTRL+Alt+S does it bring up the Save As screen?

New Version V3.4.0 This does:

If you are overlaying an image or chart and GE is not currently positioned within that chart/image, GE2KAP will automatically fly to the center of the chart/image and adjust the eye level until the sides of the chart/image are at the edge of the GE window.

Try it out please: www.gdayii.ca/Downloads GE2KAP_V2_BETA

Jimthom, one other thing: before you press Create Kap, make sure that there are no windows popped up already in GE like the Save As or Image Overlay.

Hi Paul;

Did you notice whether on GE if it brought up the Save As window?
-The Save as window did not appear

Also, while in GE if you press CTRL+Alt+S does it bring up the Save As screen?
-Yes, pressing CTRL+Alt+S does it bring up the Save As screen.

Also Paul, there are no windows popped-up in G.E. when I press Create Kap.

I can send any screen shots that may be helpful.
I am happy to try anything you can suggest -

Thank you,
Jim

jimthom,

If you haven't already, please try V3.4.0

Also, try entering an overlay chart as well as chart name and watch GE to see if it brings up the Image overlay window when you press Create Kap. I want to see if any keys are getting to GE.

AUTOMATIC GE AREA SELECTION

The new V3.4.0 of GE2KAP now selects the appropriate GE area based upon the geo loc info supplied for the overlay map,whether using a bitmap+.gpx file or a .kap chart. Great improvement which also requires little adjustment.

Thanks for the rapid enhancements.

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

Hi Paul;

I uninstalled GE V. 6.xxx and reinstalled v5.2 with exactly the same outcome. The other interesting thing is that after I run GE2KAP and close GE, when I restart GE the overlay is still there and I can not seem to be able to remove it.

Cheers, Jim

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

jimthom,

OK at least I know that I can send keystrokes to GE. Seems there is a problem with sending the combination keys. What I'm going to to is eliminate the Ctrl+AL+S and bring up the Save As window the same way I bring up the Image Overlay. Will let you know whan the new version is available.

You can remove the overlay by going into GE View..Sidebar and scrolling down sidebar until you see Samal_01, right click on and select delete.

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

OK the new version V3.4.1 is uploaded. Please try it:

www.gdayii.ca/Downloads GE2KAP_V2_BETA

It eliminates the Ctr+Alt+S to bring up the Save As window. I also updated the documentation.

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

Hi Paul;
I sucessfully created a *.kap file using v.3.4.1, and it looked good in the viewer. OpenCPN would not reconize it, and Coastal Explorer had it georeferenced incorrectly. I'll try to send you samal.kap and the log which is too big to post here.

Thank you,
Jim

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

Jim,

The chart does show up my version 2.3.1 of OpenCPN but doesn't seem correct. I don't think your ccoordinates were correct. This could be for several reasons that I've seen on other probems:

1. You didn' t enter the first waypoint in the upperleft and the second in the lower right.

2. You didn't crop the image to the waypoints or cropped inaccurately.

3. The original chart that you used to create the image is off. I've seen this particularly on some old CM93 charts where not only the position is not correct but the size is incorrect. You may have to re-position the image when GE2KAP overlays it, but you should NOT have to resize it.

One way to check if the original chart is OK is to create two placemarks on GE with the same coordinates as the original waypoints. After you create the KAP the two original waypoints and the placemarks should line up exactly.

I am going to sail out of Mexico on Thursday for the USA and will be without internet for quite sometime. Please don't send me any large files because it will just clog up my email which will be via satellite phone.

Cheers,

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

I have one user who finds that if GE is not started (and no internet connection) that when he starts GE2KAP.V3.4.1, it will crash around statement 419 with an OLE error. I have not been able to reproduce this on either Vista or XP. Has anyone else experienced this?

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

Alright one more version: GE2KAP.V3.4.3 which may fix the GE not started problem and also puts in the date the kap chart was created (CED/SE= in the BSB header).

Get it at www.gdayii.ca/Downloads GE2KAP_V2_BETA
