Here's what I keep coming up with. This is with the land transparency off. I adjusted the transparency in GE a bit so you could at least see a bit of the terrain. The GE image seems to hold up fine but the KAP 13309 gets distended to death. Any thoughts on what this is about?[/IMG]

Using a bitmap overlay,it should be near the same size as the GE display.
When the bitmap has to be enlarged to fit the background it will quickly
lose its resolution. Better to have the overlay initially a little larger than the GE.

Hmmm but I am not using a bitmap overlay. I am using a KAP file to overlay.

The file I posted is a Bitmap because is is the default export format of the paint program that I pasted into when I took a screen shot.

Unbust67,

Have you tried turning on the land transparancy then put the GE transparancy slider all the way to the right (opaque) before you press OK?

Well I haven't heard of any problems for a few days. But I noticed that every now and then it would screw up getting the overlay screen so I have refined the code to make sure its there before proceeding.

Also in this version I elimated the need to delete the routes and tracks when you Export All in openCPN. You still need to have only two waypoints though, the upper left and the lower right.

V3.3.7 is available for testing: www.gdayii.ca/Downloads

Paul..

Thanks for yet another version.. I take it you now have to send two separate .gpx files, one top left.gpx and the other bottom right.gpx ?

Paul..

Well that did not work so I managed to combine both in the same file.
The processing took a very very long time before displaying the overlay on GE which was all out of proportion and seemed skewed as well.

Re my #264. As I think my calibration points were not correct,I re-checked all and sendt a new .gpx file. (even deleting all waypoints in OpenCPN,one remained in the route section which was included as a third waypoint in the .gpx file) I am not sure how you can send the two geo locs in one file without first deleting ALL existing waypoints.

The process to read the geo locs and arrive at the overlay took 5 minutes and a further 14 min to complete the .kap file. A total of 19 min to convert one map. Something must be wrong somewhere. Perhaps the algorithm to delete all land colours takes too long? Perhaps some preparatory functions are better kept out of the procedure?

Preparing the ovelay file with transparent land areas are very easy using CM93 maps as the land areas have hardly any details and fery few colours. I use Gimp2.

Using the input geo locs of the overlay map to activate GE via a KML script will ensure that identical areas are selected. I attach a KML file which automatically takes you to your required location.

I also wish someone would be able to write a GE plug-in for OpenCPN with an optional dual screen.

Bug Free

Just tried the latest version on XP SP3 . " Waypoints entered and a route created then gpx created. GE2Kap worked flawlessly in 2 mins with transparency correctly applied by the program to the opencpn capture. Fuzz was set to 20%

Tore I am not sure but I think you may have selected export all from the routes tab not the waypoints tab

regards

Richard

On OpenCPN the Export All will download all the Routes, tracks and waypoints no matter what tab is selected. But now GE2KAP.V3.3.7 will ignore the waypoints in the track and routes.

Tore, You have to have only 2 waypoints, the upper left first and the lower right second. All others have to be deleted before you press Export All...

Paul/R.Fairman

As per my last posting I only used 2 waypoints, top left and bottom right in that order.
I deleted ALL waypoints from the waypoints tab before entering the two above and then exporting all. I suppose the .gpx file will still have to have the same name as the overlay file?

My only concern is that so far the conversion takes far too long and the result does not have a very good resolution and tends to be very dark. However, the sequence works and no doubt will be improved in time as we learn more.

Well we got Tore working OK once he had the right waypoints for his image.

r.fairman, why did it take a fuzz of 20%? What was the image? I usually find that 20% is too high and starts making non-land things transparent, ie the water.

Hi Paul;
I hope you have an answer because this looks like good solution to get accurate charts for obscure regions if I can get it working.
