Google Earth

I like the idea of using a GPS with Google Earth as a added navigation backup.
Google Earth say their system will work with Garmin or Magallen, will other standard Gps systems work with Google earth. Has anyone experience with this.

Google maps works with the built in GPS in my Toshiba laptop. Unfortunately the quality of this GPS is not the same as Garmin (less sensitive and requires more time to find its position). Still, I'm not complaining since the GPS came as an unexpected bonus with the laptop and does work.
