Garmin handheld devices - setting up Track information

For sailing in general, or racing specifically, how often do you set your unit to record Track Log data points?

Do you use "Auto" and if so, which frequency setting do you use?

or

Do you use "Time" and how many seconds between readings?

I only turn on my 78sc when I want to record the track. It automatically records but I save it at the end of the trip, take it home and transfer to Google Earth and Open CPN.

Understood and assuming you think your Track Log settings are adequate for downloading to Google Earth, what settings are you using in the Track Log setup?
