Full TimeZero Nav Software on iPad !

Check it out: Panbo: The Marine Electronics Weblog: Splashtop Remote Desktop, full on charting software on your iPad

It's Steve Dashew again who brings this forward and now really gives us a marine iPad !!

Also, using the MacMini as the server is something I have been doing and promoting for a year at least. This setup really works like a charm !!

The image shows NobelTec TimeZero but MaxSea also works.. in fact, any software works because this is a remote-desktop application!

ciao!
Nick.

did you forget to mention that the TZ or Maxsea software only run on windoze? Are you running Windows on your macmini natively? or parallels, or any other virtual machine? Thanks for the commercial

Plashstop is a remote control program like VNC, a bit modified for performance and to make use of Ipad gestures... big deal.

Yes, this is Windows software but Windows runs perfectly well on Apple Mac hardware since Apple switched to Intel CPU's and introduced Bootcamp. It's best to run Windows natively for this, not within a virtual machine. I still use Windows XP but Windows 7 is also a good candidate, may be even better.

I advocate MacMini because of it's size but also because of it's dual core CPU and it has the video system (NVidea) that is required by the TimeZero software. The new MacMini's are very small but have their AC power supply built in. If you don't want to use an inverter and are a bit handy, there are good instructions on how to convert them to 12V DC (Google is your friend). They are very power efficient too.
The Mac's run Windows XP very well too, which is something most other hardware vendors don't support anymore. You can make multi-boot to get both Windows and MacOS but you can also decide to have a Windows-only setup just like with any other PC (I actually tested that to confirm it).

The big deal with this remote desktop program is that it has those iPad gestures supported plus that it's performance really makes it work with these full navigation programs. This did not work well enough before.

ciao!
