Re: French voices on VHF in NJ and Delaware

Yah, we have the same thing up on Georgian Bay, Ontario, Canada in the summer .... American voices filling the VHF and in the fall like migrating birds they all head south

Re: French voices on VHF in NJ and Delaware

Could it possibly be that the Yanks don't like hearing the French because they can't understand what's being said??????? As in, just want to "read the mail"?

Oh, no, surely not!

Actually the United States has no "official language" and people are free to speak whatever they please. I don't think the OP expressed any dislike for the French he heard spoken, but was just curious about the cause. Certainly, many US citizens are further removed from the varieties of languages spoken in some areas.

It's true, in general I like Canadians more than Americans.

You should read the preface of "The Rains Came" by Louis Bromfield:

Two men sited at a bar:
-Do you like Americans?
-No ! Answered the second one with conviction.
-Do you like Frenchmen ?
-No
-Do you like Brits ?
-No !
-Russians ?
-No !
-Germans ?
-No !
After a long silence, the first one asked the second:
-Who do you like?
-My friends !

Meaning he doesn't care where they were born & myself having traveled a lot (Born in France, raised in Montreal, lived in Scotland, Vancouver, the West Indies, I can confirm that the percentage of assholes are very fairly spread over all nationalities
