Re: Free Routing Software. qtVlm
Maitai, in the thread Integration with QtVlm you advise "Version 3.3.2 is out. See here Free Routing Software. qtVlm for more details."
What is the actual link? and is the software for English? Thank you.

Re: Free Routing Software. qtVlm
The link is as usual QtVlm Download
BTW the last version is now 3.3.3-patch1. It fixes a slowness in loading grib files, plus adds an export fonction to Excel or openOffice for the roadbook and a new filter based on heading variation.

Re: Free Routing Software. qtVlm
Maitai, I just recently downloaded 3.3.3 ...just before Hurricane Sandy, and the grib scrolls and scales in and out faster, thank you. I will certainly be downloading 3.3.3-patch1 shortly. The grib was very useful in determining how to prepare for Sandy, fortunately we were very lucky.

Re: Free Routing Software. qtVlm
There was a problem in 3.3.3 with the 32bits/windows version, hence the patch.

Re: Free Routing Software. qtVlm
I like the choice of language under Options / Language very simple. Also automatically determining 64 bit. The installation is getting very slick! Thank you.

Re: Free Routing Software. qtVlm
Question - I have created a routing and I now want to see the lat/longs, courses, boat speed, & winds along the routing. How do I do that?

Re: Free Routing Software. qtVlm
You need to convert your routing into a route. Then you can go route->edit and see the route's details tab, or route->edit and check "display data from roadbook at grib date" option, to see all this while you change the grib's date.
This is not what you are asking for but in 3.3.3 you also have a neat option to display wind's strength along the routing, best for seeing this is to edit routing, uncheck "see Isochrons", and check "Color TWS between isos" instead.

Re: Free Routing Software. qtVlm
Evans, say hi to Beth. We met her at SHYC Stonington Ct with Bob and Ami Green last year.
Oddly enough, I just wrote a description of how to use Routes and Routing in qtVlm, after a lot of Maitai's help... see the post here Vendee Globe Cruisers Forum
There are also lots of posts above that by Maitai explaining details about qtVLM in response to questions.

Hi Rick,
Thanks. Just found the 'convert to route check box'. Still playing with it.
This is a terrific program. Thanks Maitai and team.

So, if I do that, the resulting color map shows the wind strength at the time the boat would arrive there - is that right?

Re: Free Routing Software. qtVlm
hi there maitai after googling QTVLM i came here...and finally i can read the changelog you make on the qtvlm software...
I use it for sailonline.org, or SOL, on the vendee globe..
Now, i have a few questions...since i now need some workarounds to get the route GPX data into SOL. ( i import the QT data into Blue water racing, and remove the first 00 line in the data , since that is messsing up the time , and export it as .txt . then i have to use some homebrew converter )
SOL has the ability to import DC's, or waypoints, or direction settings..
they use this brainaids Sailonline Toolbox to enter the GPX data.
Only...the format they need, or ask is this :
2012/11/24 16:54:00 cc 168.00
2012/11/24 18:29:00 cc 166.00
2012/11/24 18:38:00 cc 167.00
Now....is there a possibility to make a export option in your wonderfull router ?
Another thing..but that is more the usersettings i presume..now, the best route if one is sailing upwind uses/generates a rout with a TWA of +/- 40-41..is it possible to change that somewhere to 43-44 or something ?
by the way, great job mon amis, terrific piece of software !

Re: Free Routing Software. qtVlm
Hmm i think if you export in adrena format (i.e. the txt format), then it's very easy to write an excel or openOffice macro to convert to the SOL format you want. After that it's quite easy to add yet another format, we just need more details and some example (for instance I do not see any position in what you posted, just time and a heading??)
Concerning the best angles upwind or downwind qtVlm calculates them based on the polar. If SOL says that the best wind angle upwind is 45 while with the same polar and TWS qtVlm says it's 41 you should trust qtVlm imo. Give us an example and I'll prove it

Re: Free Routing Software. qtVlm
Ha ! Thanxs mate for the quick reply !
Yep, i'm already using a third party conv program to change BWR't txt dump into the format i dumped above. ( http://soltools.wordpress.com/tools/bwr-to-dcs/ )
Yes, no position, just time and CC. Cést tous the pos is already made, or done in the SOL sailsim...
About the TWS, well, thats a matter of personal taste...the question was if it is possible to adjust it, i assume it isn't ?
regards, DH

Re: Free Routing Software. qtVlm
Concernng the best angle upwind or downwind, i'm afraid it's not a matter of taste. It's directly implied by the polar. In other words if you feel that the calculated angle is not correct then your polar is not correct.
