Re: Free Routing Software. qtVlm

Version 5.3.0 needs the new gshhs and will refuse to start if it doesn't find them.

If you have problems downloading them from inside qtVlm, you can find them here: http://www.virtual-winds.org/oxygen/...mMaps_v234.zip and just unzip them in qtVlm map's folder.

Re: Free Routing Software. qtVlm

We have issued a patch version to fix a driver missing on Windows and Linux concerning mbtiles (plus a minor bug if the tiles covered full world). Also note that qtVlm expects to find .mbtiles files (for instance generated with SASPlanet) in its mbTiles directory, not a folder structure with .png files.

Re: Free Routing Software. qtVlm

qtVlm version 5.3.4 has been released a few days ago (including Android and iOS)

It includes:

Gribs ECMWF support (mainly to be able to load gribs from the past, available here: http://apps.ecmwf.int/)
Add gusts data
Add possibility to open partially a grib, based on map's selection. Useful to load huge grib files on mobile platforms.
Add possibility to configure a custom grib download location for the 2 grib slots
Add possibility to merge grib files in one file: that allows to merge several data in one file, but also allows to merge the same data at different resolution, for instance a HD 0.01 grib for 3 days and then a regular 0.25 grib for 15 days. The data with the better resolution is always used first.
Support gpx import (routes and POIs)
Improve NMEA communication error management
Improve Instruments module
Improve AIS module
Improve simulation module (sinagot AIS sailing simulation and training)
Improve data import/export
Android: Better support for devices without physical buttons

Fair winds to all
Philippe.

Re: Free Routing Software. qtVlm

Dear Philippe,
Have you considered making an option that can draw the laylines from nmea wind and/or from gribfile. it could be usefull to determine correctnes of a gribfile.

anyway, keep up the good work

Re: Free Routing Software. qtVlm

Good idea, i'll have some thoughts about that. Thanks

There is a very useful instrument in qtVlm, namely TSP (target speed), that can help a lot to follow the layline, and IMO is much more efficient than just following a layline defined as a heading. It's based on real wind/currents though, not grib's.

I have put that on my todo list

For anyone else that was a bit confused, the actual app is here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/qtv...d?source=files

(not at the ECMWF link above)

Next version will have laylines (both from nmea data or grib data), taking winds and currents (tide) into consideration. If you (or anyone else btw) want to test a bit before we release it just send me a pm.

Re: Free Routing Software. qtVlm

Just downloaded V5.3-4 and this product just gets better! Thanks to the team.

One question, I want to configure the software to automatically download current GRIBs from NOAA. I would use the Florida, Caribbean area.

Can anyone share the correct url to enter in QTVlm>Configuration>Grib>"http address for custom currents location".

My OCD demands that I mention this minor peccadillo- the drop down menu is QTVlm>"Configuration". But the box that pops up is labeled "Settings".

Re: Free Routing Software. qtVlm

What url are you trying to use exactly? This is intended to be something like an ftp directory containing files, or at least something similar. Something like Index of /MyOcean or OpenSkiron - OpenWRF Gribs or Index of /

I'll fix the translation peccadillo

Good morning, thanks for the fast reply.

I found ftp://ftpprd.ncep.noaa.gov/pub/data/nccf/com/cfs/prod/

and entered it into GRIB setting box.

I am getting an error "cannot open ftp://.....: is a directory". Just for craps and giggles, I stripped off everything after noaa.gov and the software still gives the same error.

Any idea what I am doing wrong?
