Re: Free Routing Software. qtVlm

There are many possible reasons why qtVlm cannot reach your WP. The 2 most common are:

-The grib you loaded does not contain wind data in the area/time you are trying to route
-Your boat location is inside land.

Try to load a correct grib first (select the zone, right-click, download with zyGrib), make sure wind data is checked.

Re: Free Routing Software. qtVlm

I think it's because I am inside of a bite of land. I am experimenting trying to from Provincetown in cape cod to inside of Boston harbor. The routing requires both an upwind and downwind leg. I think the issue is designating barriers. Once in Boston Harbor there are a series of ledges that must be avoided. The route is created up to a point where it has to make a sharp turn and that's when I get the message.

Which version are you using? Can you post the coordinates of starting/ending points so I can help you better?

Re: Free Routing Software. qtVlm

Your destination is inside land...

But even if you move it in water you cannot expect the routing module to drive you up to the cat-way The routing module is intented for relatively long distances where you must take decision concerning weather. You can put your destination point somewhere close the the entrance of the harbour and probably qtvlm will find a solution.

What you can do otherwise is the create a route manually (route->create) insert a few POIs and you will get a rather precise estimation of the travel duration.

For instance, moving a bit your destination point outside the harbour:

Re: Free Routing Software. qtVlm

Hi,

just started to play with the Routing Software - looks great! Am I right that the current Grib in grib2 format from BSH (as reported by Hartmut earlier) is still not working?

Thanks!

Regards,

Carsten

Yes there is a problem with their grib files (1 or 2). They are aware of it... but they don't seem to care....

Re: Free Routing Software. qtVlm

... thanks for the swift reply maitai! I am living pretty close to the BSH so if you think it would make sense to "visit them for a coffee" and tell them about the problem in person let me know ;-).

Regards,

Carsten

Re: Free Routing Software. qtVlm

Hello !

I'm running qtVlm 3.4.0 on Linux 64bit. Any newer version I compiled is not able to connect to my NMEA interface, despite I set up things like in my "old" version. It complains about not finding COM1. Has anybody here an idea where the newer versions expect to find COM1 ? Or where I can get information about this topic ?

Thanks in advance, Roland

Re: Free Routing Software. qtVlm

Yes that has been fixed, sorry for that. The new version is now 3.4.4-patch1

Many thing have been improved since 3.4.3, including the routing module. You can find the list of main modifications here: qtVlm / Tickets
