Re: Free Routing Software. qtVlm

Phillippe..

I downloaded your tup-3.3-0+.exe but without maps.

I copied the two files in the maps directory of v. 3.2-9 and pasted into the maps
directory of 3.3-0+ but they do not show up?? Which files are missing?

Re: Free Routing Software. qtVlm

What do you mean by "I copied the 2 files" ? You are supposed to download and run qtvlm_setup-3.3-0+.exe and it should take care of all.

Re: Free Routing Software. qtVlm

It takes a long time to download the maps upon installation and I only need the world-map outline. Thought I could make a shortcut by copying all in the maps directly in the previous version.

Re: Free Routing Software. qtVlm

Tore,

You can choose NOT to download the maps, and select a previously installed map folder instead. It's an option qtVlm will ask at first launch. It has to be a real qtVlm map folder from a previous installation. Gshhs from zygrib or ocpn are NOT compatible, because they are of oldest versions or they miss full details.

So in your case you run the install.exe, you do not click donwload maps since you don't want that, when qtVlm shouts because it cannot find the maps and ask if it should download them, just click on "Choose a folder" instead and browse to an existing map folder.

EDIT: We will change "Choose a folder" label to something more meaningful, such as "Choose an existing map folder"

qtVlm 3.3.1 has been released.

It'a a bug fix version, containing also some speed optimization. The Windows setup should be ok this time. Mac/OS version should be available soon.

For linux the rev number is #1407

Phillippe..
The REFENO regatta from Recife,Brazil is being measured against an optimized route using qtVlm.

The leading boat,Mussulo III has exactly the predicted speed at the measured waypoints.

The presentation is using OpenCPN and qtVlm.. Date: 13 Oct Time 20:15 LST

Re: Free Routing Software. qtVlm

On my iPad I use the new Routing module from Weather4D mobile app.
Very simple and intuitive interface.

Re: Free Routing Software. qtVlm

Version 3.3.2 is out

It fixes a number a minors bugs and some other small improvements, plus it adds the support of various other gribs:

-NOGAPS (like GFS but different model, accessible via saildocs)
-MERCATOR (Currents worldwild, accessible free via Navimail)
-ACTIMAR (free grib with currents and all, very detailled, for West-France)

Also add an option to visualize meteo along isochrons in routing module.

Hello maitai,
how can i create a barrierline for routing which consists of a line drawed out of more then 2 marks ?
For eg to avoid a TSS wich is not going in a straight line or to round a cape in a certain distance.

Re: Free Routing Software. qtVlm

qtVlm will avoid coast automatically (if option is set, which is the default)

You can also set up a barrier (or several). To do that just place 2 POIs (preferably defined as beacons but it's not compulsory), then right-click on one of them and choose "Draw/Edit a line to another POI". You can move the POIs (shift-left-click) to adjust the position of the line. That will be considered as a barrier for the routing module.

Next big version will have a much better module for that, but that should do the trick.

Hi maitai
sorry but i am not able to make a barrier out of more then 2 POIs.
Here is the way i try to do it:
1) i create 3 POIs named to 001 003
2) right click on 001 (DRAW/EDIT LINE ....) to 002. --> a line is displayed from 001 to 002
3) right click on 002 (DRAW/EDIT LINE ...) to 003. --> a line is displayed from 002 to 003 and the line from 001 to 002 is erased.
So it is not possible to draw a combined barrierline, a workaround is to set another mark close by 002 and start a new line to 003.
But also with this workaround the first line will be erased when drawind thesecond line. Closeing qtvlm and starting again will display all lines.

Re: Free Routing Software. qtVlm

yes the way barriers are constructed in this version is quite primitive. Next big one will be much better but that's a couple of month ahead at least.

So for the time being:

You want to draw a line from 1 to 2 then 3. You have to place 1 then 2, then a 3 to 4. 3 beeing at the same place than 2.
