Re: Fort Myers to Blackpoint Marina Miami

Navigating Jewfish Creek to Biscayne Bay was straight forward. Most depths were more than 6 ft. Just watch the ICW and tides if you draw 5 or more.

Almost forgot. For those of you making this trek there are two sections in Biscayne Bay where you must follow the markers and stay to the middle. I sailed through them and almost hit one.

Just a few picks to share. My family and I had a great vacation. My son and daughter did most of the driving.

Waiting for Snake Bridge to open - Youtube.

This wasn't too bad but do watch out for the current. The cruising guides made a big deal of this inlet but as long as you have power everything should be fine.

Us going through Snake Bridge - watch out for the power lines.

Cowpens pass on the ICW was very exciting because you get to take a sailboat through a mangrove cut. Further north on the ICW we trekked through two more passes like this one. If you are planning on doing this at night, reconsider.

What wildlife might you expect to see on a trip from Marco to Key West to Marathon to Plantation Key to Miami?

1. Marco Island has an amazing amount of dolphins which followed us all the way to Key West - at least it seemed that way.
2. There were plenty of diving birds
3. Manatees at the Plantation Key Harbour docks
4. Eagles - on the ICW in both Marco and in Key Largo
5. Bull sharks which were visible from the boat. Around Islamorada.
6. Sting rays - numerous places
7. Two loggerhead turtles as we headed out of Key West
8. Flying fish were everywhere on the east coast
