But not for sinking a 9000 ton
ferry with 2 fatalities. While there has been some discussion about the inquiry into the sinking of the Bounty, here in BC there is a trial underway for criminal negligence causing death for the officer in charge of navigating the "Queen of the North" which, 20 minutes after failing to perform a critical course change, ran at cruising speed into an island in the midnight darkness. Today, the news reports the officer stating that he was fired, not for sinking the vessel, but because he had reported several
safety violations. There were 2 people on the bridge that night, two people who had had a relationship which had recently ended rather badly. This has fueled wild rumours about the cause of the crash, but, well, rumours...meanwhile, not sure whose bright idea it was to put a 9000 ton ship in the hands of two people who had just broken up.
you just can't make this stuff up.
