enc chart depth numbers upper and lower?
basic question.
The numbers show low tide water levels?
what does the lower letter next to the number mean?
I have seen 'g' and some numbers I think.

Re: enc chart depth numbers upper and lower?
ok loaded a picture to show you
next to the depth number at an angle
what is 'g' or is it a '9'?
what is '8'
what is '1'
etc...
compared to the depth it must have some meaning

The "g" is a "9".
That is the way decimals are displayed. 12.9 meters, 14.1 meters, etc.

Re: enc chart depth numbers upper and lower?
thanks, so 131 means 13.1 feet 88 means 8.8
this should be for low tide readings?

Re: enc chart depth numbers upper and lower?
Enc charts just adhere to standard chart conventions regarding depth figures etc. Paper charts looks just the same.
I think that you could benefit greatly from reading up on basic navigation.
Consider reading and learning from a good navigation text. Please make sure you understand everything in a chart, before heading out next time!

I think that is for MLW , mean low water. Not necessarily low tide, I think.
Someone will correct me it I'm wrong.

Near enough.
It's chart datum. Usually lowest astronomical tide (LAT) in tidal waters. According to IHO, prob same in US.
All you need to know here.
U.S. Chart No. 1
or here

It's a good idea to check if the depths are metres or feet

Re: enc chart depth numbers upper and lower?
I was going to recommend Chart 1 also, though I forget some of it.
I think MLW applies to rivers in the US.
It's all a blur to me, learning(remembering) all this at an older age is a challenge for me.

Mean lower low water - but always check the title block of the chart to verify.

Not all countries use the same chart datum. Canada uses Lowest Normal Tide.
