In any case, it's not worth pursuing this thread any longer. Those of us who make the very sensible argument that the exclusive reliance on one technology is foolhardy are being portrayed disingenuously as Luddites.
So, you all get the last word. Have at it.

And it seem that us Luddites are using the internet.

When I was at school in Quebec and Ontario, we were lucky to have much smaller class sizes...James...

Like MarkJ, I have done that as well and I will happily do it again whenever the mood strikes me but in fairness, I must add that although I did not have the physical paper charts with me when I last cruised the Pacific, I did have my laptop with its trusty GPS dongle as a backup chart plotter loaded with the most recent and freely available charts to run within OpenCPN.
I have used that backup system, (Quite often as a primary navigation system just for the heck of it) all over the place and it has never let me down.
Paper charts for just about anyplace in the world are available in electronic form, often for FREE and in my experience, the “E Charts” are usually rather more up to date than the paper versions available at outrageous prices from the paper sellers.
So in answer to your question would I do that?
Yep, been there, done that….James

Not so fast!

Federal budget cuts are threatening to leave the U.S. without some critical satellites, the officials say, and that could mean less accurate warnings about events like tornadoes and blizzards. In particular, officials at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration are concerned about satellites that orbit over the earth's poles rather than remaining over a fixed spot along the equator.

I tried "government millimeter radar mapping" and "crazy made-up conspiracy theories" but didn't find anything relevant.

Sneuman, GPS is not "one " technology, its a bit like saying we shouldnt rely on electricity.
GPS uses a satellite constellation, hence it has a huge degree of fault tolerance, a fact borne out for its now extensive usage.
As to terrorists or other groups, why not just poison the water supply or Sarin gas or whatever, Large area GPS jamming requires considerable equipment and is easily detected and unless militarily defended, easyily located and destroyed.
of course all this has nothiong to do with charts, GPS is about position fixing. Charts are about location information and can be used with very poor or alomost non-existent position fixing. ( ie DR etc).

Re: Death to PAPER ! More Nails in the Paper Chart Coffin . . .

Alaska Airlines received F.A.A. approval in May to permit its pilots to consult digital flight, systems and performance manuals on the iPad — cutting about 25 pounds of paper from each flight bag. The e-manuals include hyperlinks and color graphics to help pilots find information quickly and easily. And pilots do not have to go through the tedium of updating the manuals by swapping out old pages with new ones because updates are downloaded automatically.
In the next phase of what Alaska Airlines calls Operation Bye, Bye, Flight Bag, the carrier plans to petition the F.A.A. to use the iPad to read aeronautical charts, saving another five pounds of paper per pilot. Counting both the pilot and co-pilot, that would remove 60 pounds of paper from the cockpit — a significant savings not only in paper and printing costs but also in fuel because planes are that much lighter.
American Airlines won F.A.A. approval last month for its pilots to use the iPad to read aeronautical charts. American received authorization last year to use the device instead of paper reference manuals. Executive Jet Management, a NetJets company owned by Berkshire Hathaway, received the F.A.A.’s permission in February for its pilots to read aeronautical charts on iPads.
