| Current Charts for Indonesia & Singapore
Hi All, Looking for an on line source for current charts for Indonesia & Singapore waters. By Currents I mean the flow of the water not the latest. Thanks in advance for the help. |

Good idea but the paper charts are so far off these days one can not really trust them any more. Monsons are months late ( like this year) then change early or what ever. There should be some site that has current flow charts of real time , or close enough for sailing based on what is really happening.

BTW I have the full sets of Pilot charts and have used them for over 25 years now. Only in the past 5 or so years have they started to let me down pretty consistantly.

I don't think there's anything like that. There's some information on current's in the British Admiralty pilots, as you probably know, but they won't be very recent either. For our current trip (May-June: Langkawi, Singapore, Kuching, Puerto Princessa, Hong Kong) they helped us couple of times to catch a ride on a current. Other times there were off (week monsoon, ITCZ swept right over us). As for the pilot charts, I was trying to find some recent statistics on prevalent winds (and especially typhoons) for last couple of decades, as an update for the Pilot charts, but I haven't succeeded. Should be quite easy for someone with fast computer ![]() Good luck |

I've seen guys with the tide and current charts but I haven't had the need to find any. There are very strong currents around here and for passage racing it is a big deal. Also, when traversing from one end of Sing to another the passage times can be 7 hours all the way to 12 hours depending on how tides and currents are managed.
