Cross Florida Barge Canal

Is this navigable by sailboat 4'draft? Does anyone have info on this? I only find walking, bike and horse info. I didn't find sailboat info in the time I have had. Also a good chart?

How far do you want to go? Most of it was never built. President Nixon killed it for environmental reasons. It sure would have been nice to be able to cut accross north Florida, but it just wasn't practical.

Re: Cross Florida Barge Canal

From my charts.........

Improved channels are subject to shoaling, particularly at the edges.

Depth Area Min: -3ft., Max: 12ft.
Dredged Area, 12 ft.

For info......Florida Dept. Environmental Protection, Office of Greenways and Trails ... 353-236-7143

There is one Active Captain post for anchorage. Stated that US Coast Guard recommended anchorage there, about 4-5 miles in is the post marker. No statement as to whether this was for getting away from bad weather off shore.

Re: Cross Florida Barge Canal

Like Tripod said, it was never finished. It doesn't go across Florida.

I have to wonder if you really mean to ask about the Okeechobee Waterway, which DOES go all the way across Florida.
