Creating charts from bounding boxes and scale

Does anyone know of a program that will take a chart extent polygon (bounding box) and the scale and will create a chart from google earth or sasplanet of this area at that particular scale.

What I would like to do is set up a database of bounding boxes and scales for a particular area then be able to create kap files using different satellite data for this region.

I think Sean D has some MBTiles tools that is close to what I'm looking for but I'm not a python guy so I can't work out the process for running them. Has anyone run these and could maybe explain how they work?

Thanks for any help.
Colin

Re: Creating charts from bounding boxes and scale

I'm assuming that I'm out of luck with existing software being able to do this.

Would really like some hints for running the MBTiles-Tools if anybody out there has had luck running these.

This I'm thinking may do exactly what I'm trying to achieve.

GE2KAP creates charts from GE and SasPlanet using either polygons or paths. You can get it from the Downloads page of my website Sample

Re: Creating charts from bounding boxes and scale

Thanks Paul, I've played with GE2KAP quite a bit and was aware of the polygon function. I don't think it will do what I was hoping (please correct me if I'm wrong).

What I was hoping to accomplish was to instead of putting the time and effort into creating individual charts. Instead create a database of bounding boxes and chart scales that could be run to automatically create the charts from online imagery sources.

This database would be similar to the chart catalog for admiralty charts where the majority of areas are covered at say a 1:20 000 scale with harbours, anchorages and passes etc at 1:5 000.

Just seemed like a logical way to create imagery charts, but doesn't seem like anybody is doing it this way.

Re: Creating charts from bounding boxes and scale

Well you can create polygons and paths and predefine the scale or zoom level or height either in the name of the polygon/path or in the filename. So I suppose you could just create all your polygon/paths and store then away until you wanted to create a chart from them using GE2KAP
