Conflict with Offshore Navigator and GPS input

I know I am going to get yelled at because you guys helped me fix this before but I can’t find it in the archive. When I plug in my GPS via a serial to USB adaptor tomy PC running Windows XP, the screen freezes up, windows start opening and closing and jumping around. It has something to do with Microsoft Pointer Devise but I can’t find that in “devise manager”. We have flown in from Texas and are leaving in the morning. Somebody don’t yell at me and just remind me how to eliminate the conflict!

Re: Conflict with Offshore Navigator and GPS input

calli, the most permanent way to fix it is by unplugging the adapter, then adding the /noserialmouse" parameter in the windows startup configuration. You'll find specific instructions for how to do that on the web, in the MS knowledge base and elsewhere.

Yes, there are other ways to do it, but by setting it in the startup configuration, it ALWAYS gets loaded when the OS starts, and it is most unlikely to get accidentally cleared out.

The very best way I've used to stop the jumping-mouse :
Downloads - Stentec Software
look for the COM Port Plug&Play Blocker
no fuss no muss. and it works.
