co-ordinate conversion

How does one convert top and from the Google Earth co-ordinate system of eg. 35Deg31.45Min to the chart plotter co-ordinate system of eg 025Deg31.0568. They don't appear to be the same thing at least the co-ordinates do not match exactly between the two. -----But, I could be wrong!
TIA

It looks the same to me, just with different numbers of Sig Figs. To make the first look more like the second you just need to add some insignificant zeroes.

035Deg 31.4500Min
025Deg 31.0568Min

Or conversely, to make the second look like the first, you'd have to do some rounding

35Deg 31.45Min
25Deg 31.06Min

I could be wrong, but that's what I'd make of it.

There are 60 Seconds in a Minute, and 60 Minutes in a Degree.
Hence:
35Deg, 31.45Min = 35Deg, 31 Min, 27 Seconds
025Deg 31.0568 = 25 Deg, 31 Min, 3.38 Seconds

I wish everyone would stop using Seconds...including NOAA. It makes things unnecessarily complex increasing the chance of mistakes. Degrees and tenths of minutes work just fine.

Are those coordinates supposed to be for the same location?

Obviously, they are 10 degrees different.

Did you locate a position on both places or did you transfer a Lat/lon from one to the other.

If you located a position - a marina for example - on two different systems and then compared the lat/lon you could be on a different datum system.

Are you sure that your chartplotter and GoogleEarth are using the same chart datum? Very easily not, and that can make for significant shifts.

Dsvid, watch what you wish for. ISO and the engineers want to get rid of seconds AND MINUTES and express everything as "Degrees.decimal" these days.

Co-ordinate conversion

Thank you all for your comments. Apologies for confusion, the co-ordinates given were just as examples of how they are presented and not both of the same point. Since I started this topic I have had a 'burning bush' moment and realise thet one form uses decimal seconds and the other represents decimal minutes so a simple multiplication or division by 60 of the final bunch of numbers converts one to the other.
I am embarassed to have missed such an obvious answer!

Coordinate Translation Websites:

There are many websites that provide free Coordinate Conversion/Translation, but one off the simplest to use is JeEep.com Coordinate Translation, which converts latitude and longitude coordinates between three regularly used units.

Yes and Many GPS units will display it the way you want Deg.Min.Dec or Deg.Min.Sec etc.
