Re: CM93 Charts and Chartplotters
CM93 charts are a professional product by CMap. There are no individual user chartplotters that support them, afaik. But you can get a nice ECDIS system for about $50K that will work with CM93 charts - of course you'd have to obtain those charts legally too, which will run another $50K or so.

there is no beter "chartploter" then opencpn.(beter than most those expensive, fancy looking like xmas tree programs.90% things you will never need or use. i just come back from croatia, done almost 3000 miles from dubrovnik to tarifa and back via sicily, sardinia, corsica, south of france, working flowlesly. cm93 (january 2011) in the mediteranean is spot on. i even used my handheld garmin, (climbed on some lighthouses) to get fix and then checked on the cm93. it was spot on, in secconds.

Re: CM93 Charts and Chartplotters
I just dont want to run up n down to check in tricky locations, maybe a better answer would be some time of repeater for the laptop at the helm? Any ideas on this one?

Re: CM93 Charts and Chartplotters
well ... the panasonic line of toughbook laptops should be water-resistant (the blocky ones with the metal casing), and Panasonic also do a wireless display which is water resistant (and talks over WIFI) ... those are probably your two best options.
You could also work out something with an android tablet remotely displaying the monitor through a VNC connection (again over WIFI) ... perhaps inside a plastic bag for water resistance.

Re: CM93 Charts and Chartplotters
Well here is my current set up, laptop with cm93/ open cpn, viewsonic tablet with navionics charts.
The boat (fingers crossed ) il'l have shortly has a raymarine c80w in the cockpit, though only local charts with it, which are useless in the wrong run , it is wired for
pc connectivity nmea.
I don't want to spend an arm and a leg on extra charts for the raymarine, I can use the viewsonic tablet on deck, just the visibility is not great and add to that a zip log bag for water proofing and its not ideal.
Any suggestions?

Re: CM93 Charts and Chartplotters
I'm using CM93 - openCPN on a samsung laptop. I'm trying to add some useful way-points to a destination in Greece. I'm using the way-points of the Greek water pilot of Rod Heikell(Imray) but I noticed a difference of 0,12 NM nord in openCPN. Could someone explain the difference, thanks!!

Re: CM93 Charts and Chartplotters
Panasonic Toughbook CF-18 plus OpenCPN (plus charts...) worked perfectly for me in the recent weeks in the Mediterranean. This laptop can be bought used for around 200 USD on auction sites. This particular model had two keyboard options, a normal (somewhat waterproofed) keyboard and a full rubber keyboard (completely submersible, but awkward to type).
Will not charge from 12V with engine off but will run. For charging it needs around 13.5V input.

Re: CM93 Charts and Chartplotters
Look at the difference of the same coordinates of Imray and openCPN?
