Check your tracks for SonarCharts Live

Navionics has an awesome feature on their app that I've been using called SonarCharts Live that lets me collect my own data so that I can make the charts in ,y area even better. The data is sent from the transducer to a Vexilar T-box and then to my iPad.
The updated map is redrawn in real-time on my chart on my iPad. The data is all catalogued and I can view it in my Navionics account, which I've just learned.
Here is how to check the status of the data you've collected:
Navionics Knowledgebase - How to view my Sonar Log Status - Account Table

Be sure that you have the following settings turned on in your app Settings (click menu then settings):
Sync my Data
Share Data
Sonar Logs Notification

Anyone else try this yet?

I got a freebie Vexilar unit from Navionics last year, but have not installed it yet...on the list to do before year end.

Definitely a must-do installing the Vexilar T-box. It's an easy install ( I did mine in the water! ) and gives you the power to create your own charts and see a live sonar reading of the bottom at the same time.

Re: Check your tracks for SonarCharts Live

I am using this in Hong Kong now. Since the Hydrographic office here stopped 3rd party charts, we can just make our own then. It's just at the beginning, though, and I was thinking it would be awesome if many more vessels did it.

One drawback to SonarCharts is there is no indication how recent or accurate the data is - other than natural looking (oddly shaped) isobath lines could indicated it has been sounded. A lot of marinas and harbours shows at just a few feet deep, despite heavy traffic there indicating otherwise (!!!). In my own marina, the charted depth was 0.5 m (less than 2 feet) where my own 3 feet draft cat is located!

It has been corrected now - thanks to me

As everywhere outside of the USA use meters for depth, this might either show in meters, or feet, depending on settings:

Re: Check your tracks for SonarCharts Live

A few things annoy me though about SonarCharts:

Once I start a recording, that recording will go to Navionics, no matter what (well, unless my iPad never goes online again). Even if you press "Delete" when stopping the recording - it's still sent for processing.

When I log into Navionics, I can see those uploaded tracks - but can't delete them. Even if the sounder isn't connected, or not working, or I am going to fast (so it shows 0 depth), I can't delete or cancel a track.

I am using my dinghy for some sounding of the local area. Trying to make a better mount than the transom, as it is affected by the propeller.

I tied two fenders together, and made a little tow out of it. Didn't work too well. Now I am thinking of a plank to pull after the dinghy, with a plastic bottle on top to ensure a constant depth.

Any other ideas? I really like the ease of the dinghy - especially at high tide, I am quite free to roam around and do some detailed soundings.
