Chartplotter shows the boat as going backwards

Hi,

If you were to believe our chart plotter we crossed the Atlantic backwards, the icon for the boat in 180 deg off and the autohelm mag compass is also 180 deg off. I am sure we did the crossing with the pointly end going forward. humm

No idea how this happened, i know this will sound like 'the dog ate my homework' when is just happened one day. Maybe i should get Mulder and Scully onto this mystry.

Our model of chart plotter is Raymarine RL80C with a ST6001 autohelm interface.

Does any one know how to reverse this?

many thanks

Jarvis

Check the variation setting too. I've seen that pop into manual and mess up everything. It's in the System settings - set it to automatic.

Is whatever is wrong with crazyhorses chartplotter happen with radar also? My radar reads 180 degrees backwards but my chartplotter is correct.

Yes, it's your heading sensor. You can select COG or heading for pointing the bow on your plotter... should be heading imo but your unit is on COG which is probably the default value.

ciao!

Thank you Master Jedi. I'll look it up in the manual before I go down next.

Nick, just so I'm clear. This is a furuno chartplotter and it's the same plotter for radar. So is it possible to have the chart function correct and the radar backwards? I'm trying to find it in the manual right now.

Oh no... sorry, I mixed you up with the OP.

Which heading sensor do you have (and which autopilot?). Navnat 3D ?

ciao!
Nick.

Re: Chartplotter shows the boat as going backwards

Didn't everyone get the email that the worlds magnetic field had reversed. I am sure I saw that on TV. I also noticed that my wine has been evaporating at a faster rate than usual. Is this related?
