Chart recommendations

I"m looking for recommendations on good quality charts (ie accurate!) for the East coast of Central America and the Pacific. What would you recommend?

Then the next question - do you know if I can use your suggestion with OpenCPN?

Re: Chart recommendations

I have made charts for most of the Caribbean which you get by following the following link, But I think you are asking for the west coast of of central america which is where the Pacific is.

Re: Chart recommendations

Paul,

No - I am looking for the East coast of central america AND the Pacific Islands.

I have heard that Navionics is poor for the pacific and Mexico (?) hence my question.

Re: Chart recommendations

Hi I use both the Garmin and Navionics for the Sea of Cortez and the west coast of Baja and Both of them have issues. Certain areas both charts are off up to 300 ft. but not consistent off together. Of the two I would choose Navionic, seem to be a bit better.

Re: Chart recommendations

Jeff,

Thanks for the recommendation - I'll be on the other side of Mexico, but I suspect the quality would be similar.

Re: Chart recommendations

Actually I found the Navionics charts to be quite good on the East coast except for one case in Guatemala at the end of the Rio Dulce. You can take the charts and use GE2KAP to overlay them on GE for a check of their accuracy.

Re: Chart recommendations

Paul,

Thanks for the confirmation - nice to know the processing I've been using should work down there as well!
