Re: Cape May Canal and Liberty Island anchoring in a trimaran?

Sorry, of course it is W of Liberty Island. There is a dock for the gulf course and a public boat ramp. Cruising boats stop by there all the time.
Have you looked at Active Captain? It's a very very useful site for cruising sailors and lists anchorages etc. with ratings and comments from sailors who have been there. Almost a must if you sail the NE.

Re: Cape May Canal and Liberty Island anchoring in a trimaran?

Many thanks. I do use Active Captain. I have not yet gotten into the details for a trip north (hopefully) from the Chesapeake to Long Isl Sound in June. Active Captain did steer me towards an anchorage just to the right of the 60' highway bridge and off the channel in Atlantic City that I plan to use. Looks tight (depth) going in, but most boats have said they have had no issues. I only draw 5.25' but my mast is too tall to go under the bridge there. I've anchored up river of that bridge before on past trips.

I'll look at that basin near Liberty Island on Active Captain. Much closer to the East River if the tide is turning early than the usual Atlantic Highlands stay-over, and looks like one gets the same spectacular view of NYC as at Liberty Landing Marina a few hundred yards to the north.

We leave July 8 from the West River. We'll stay at the mouth of the C&D, then in Cape May (less than a 55' mast height), Atlantic Highlands, (or Libery I. anchorage if everything works out) and then in LI sound and on to Block I, and Martha's Vineyard. I've gleaned most of the stop recommendations from those who've done this many times; have to give credit where it belongs! :-)
