BVI to Galveston in November

Greetings all. I will be launching from BVI to Galveston in November. Sailboat hull draft 6'-6", USCG Documentation, crew of 4, Iridium satellite weather, current Explorer Charts. Have read numerous threads regarding routes through the Caribbean West to East but limited info/cautions/concerns going E to W during Nov-Dec timeframe. Would welcome any advice regarding must see places to see/places to avoid; recommended fuel stops; cautions/concerns; customs/immigration recommendations;as well as any rumors concerning Cuba availability as a potential stopover for US Flag vessel.

You want to go through the Old Bahama Channel. Wind and current will be with you. Once through, you can stop and rest in the Keys. Then go up the west coast of Florida or straight across the Gulf.

By the way, Cuba is 90 miles south of Key West.

Bad timing the way I see it. May/June would be better. It can get a bit chilly in Nov/Dec, plus you can't outrun cold fronts in the Gulf. Could get quite nasty for you. Maybe worse.
