Best Weather Information Methods

I intend having some method of obtaining up to date weather info on passage for my new boat. My limited knowledge presumes weatherfax software on a PC (or Mac) linked through a Pactor modem was the way to go. However, technology is changing all the time and I wondering what systems are working well for you today that might work for me for a world cruise. What harware and software components would be required? The boat will be wired as 12v only.

Greg
