Which is why the wind roses on pilot charts and at the link I gave above are useful.

(you want the North Atlantic atlas). It's nice because it can be downloaded (one file for each month). I hadn't seen the resource that StuM posted, although it looks quite useful and I will save that link. But probably not much good if you are offline.

Use the site for planning, its a bit late to go looking when you get there

You can download the data and windroses for the areas/times you are interested in. See the attachment above.

Re: Average Wind Speed And Direction In Greece

Some countries do not require a license to sail. I'm a Swiss citizen and my country requires a license to navigate. Switzerland being a landlocked country yet home to some of Europe biggest lakes, it's somewhat ironic that a license is required to sail the open seas with a boat registered under a Swiss flag. To obtain the license one must complete a 14 week theory class, a full day exam, eye and ear tests, first aid certificate and 1000 nautical miles of ocean sailing with a licensed skipper. For me it was an 8 months endeavor. I have been documenting the entire experience on video. For anyone interested, here is a link to a trailer of the 1000M journey around the Med we travelled:

One additional comment:
Around the Greek islands the wind will be influenced by the landscape and will be locally very different in direction and speed from the average and the forecast.

Have you been to Greece outside of tavernas?

I vote this to be one of the most clueless posts ever on CF

Re: Average Wind Speed And Direction In Greece

Windfinder on a desktop or laptop
search for a city
View forecasts
Wind statistics
Move down the screen and click on the month for which you want the wind rose
Not every site has statistics but there will be information ao a site nearby. Sometimes a month might be missing

Clearly this a fellow who sails happily in Greek waters and enjoys the pleasure of pulling into an isolated Greek port and revelling in the rustic simplicity there. He loves it as much as I and many thousands of other sailors do and he doesn't want any more boats to come in lest he loses his spot on the quay.

Re: Average Wind Speed And Direction In Greece

Climatology is based upon 30 years of Noaa data. It is a very expanded version of pilot charts but based on average monthly grib model which can be used with the weather routing plugin.
