Anyone else want to weigh in on whether its best to cross from west palm or or Everglades?

Another thing you may want to research is, "Regatta Time in the Abacos", a great time, sailboats race, the, "Stranded Naked Party", all starting the beginning of July at Green Turtle.
Info can be found on the web. If you have not been there for "RITA", try and make it at least once in your sailing career, it is unforgettable.

Motuiti, 2 months are perfect. We are in Bimini, crossing to Miami tomorrow after 2 months down to Georgetown and back. This is our second trip and will be back next winter.

It is certainly "better" to start south of your destination and let the Gulf Stream carry you north. However I wouldn't take an extra day to go south to get a better angle. If you have a weather window and you are ready to head to a destination straight east then go for it.

Regarding Abacos vs Exumas. Both are very nice. You can't go wrong either way. I would go the way the wind and whim took me at the time.
