If the charts BSB format......

Seaclear will read them. If they are another format Seaclear will probably convert them to BSB. Remember after installing them in Mapcal you will need to close Seaclear and reopen it before it will be able to use the new charts.....m

I think the Capn charts that slacker is referring to are the ones that are proprietary to the Capn and have filenames like M00124S0.A01. I tried to load them into SeaClear and it just ignores them. It would be nice to find a progarm that converts them to BSB/Kap but I have not been able to find one.

Ya I've tried unsuccessfully with those as well....

There (apparently) programs to convert various formats into other various formats but you can be sure I won't be able to make it happen on the first(or6th) go round. It would be nice if the rest of the world was as generous with what should be basic information as NOAA is. Mexico seems to only trust the Navy with anything beyond basic (and I do mean basic) charts. Like everything down thereif you have enough money you too can have those things....m

I'd just be happy to find a program that will batch convert .jpg/.jpw to a BSB .kap.

Many navigation programs such as Fugawi and SeaClear allow you to take a JPG or BMP file and calibrate it so its readable. It doesn't create a .KAP file but is does save the calibaration data so you can use it for naviagation. I've done this a lot with Fugawi. I wouldn't trust a scanned map as much as I would a .KAP but its still quite usable.

If you can tolerate a two-step process and have access to a Unix/Linux box, convert your jpg's to TIFF files with ImageMagick convert and use tif2bsb to convert to kap files.

See libbsb - Read, Write and Convert BSB charts
