75 mph winds today, WA coast

Oh yeah....... been blowing up here. Not a good time to sail south! The prediction today is for 75 mph gusts on the coast of Washington... possible to 85.
Check your docklines for chafe! Blew like heck last night too... had a tree about 1 ft diameter break right in half.... gotta go fix the fence....

Re: 75 mph winds today, WA coast

Yep, the left coast is getting pounded today. I live about 30 miles from the ridge tops of the Sierras and the forecast wind gusts up there is for 120 mph. Glad I don't live up there, plenty windy here though.

Lots of rain here on Whidbey, but no wind at all. YET.

Yeah, real quiet over here east of you also. I just heard the low may be going slightly further south, so maybe only winds to 60...

Soooooooooooooo..... this would not be a real great time to be going north along the coast with, say, a Hunter 356, unless, of course, they can slip ashore someplace north of San Francisco, and wait for a weather window.

Had a big RIB blow right off the boat deck of a powerboat last night in the yard. It shattered big time, 20' to the hard. Owner didn't tie it down. It flew right over the rails.

I'm up the Columbia and cross that bar often enough. Not a chance today if you want to see tomorrow.

I did take a cal-29 up the coast in 45 kt winds and 18' seas on a southern blow. Surfing at around 12 to 14 kt off the waves. And you can get into Neah bay in just about any weather.

But, best to not be there.

An expensive lesson for the owner, eh? I doubt his insurance will cover it if he neglected to secure it.

Unless, of course, you were doing it in a McGregor. Lol.

Bar had 55 knt winds today with a 30 ft swell. I'm impressed. Of course these are average. One third of the swells are twice that. If I'm not blown away, I will try to get down to the beach tomorrow to take a picture.

Well, in a McGregor he could use the inside passage: the Pan American highway!

The ONLY boat in which I would want to go up the coast in weather and seas like that WOULD be a Hunter ....BUT it would be a SSN!

And we would be beneath the waves!

SSN = Submarine, nuclear, fast attack (AKA a "hunter")
