Re: 75 mph winds today, WA coast

No wind all day. Lots of rain and sunbreaks.
Now at 7:30 PM it's starting to really blow.
Maybe I'll get a chance to use my house's LiFePo4 backup system !!

Darn! I missed that one.

But I did just go through a super typhoon here in the Philippines.

But actually it died down to a tropical storm by the time it got here in Cavite. And at least it's still warm/hot.

75 miles an hour wind!!.

, we just had most of the West coast of Ireland blown off in the last day or so, peak gusts well over 120 mph. 70 METER waves ( which some idiot had to be rescued when he tried to surf them !!)

Waves that were 231 feet high?????

Really? Sounds, well, incredulous.

Thats what was claimed, They had to shut the visitor centre on top of the cliffs of Moher , ( Cliffs of Moher Tourist Attraction in Ireland, Things to Do in Ireland | Ireland’s most visited natural attraction) which is 720 feet above sea level, caused the waves where throwing rocks at the visitor centre on the top of the cliff !!.

Northern Ireland were talking about 70 - 80 mph winds. They closed the visitor center because of the winds not the waves.

That makes more sense. Here is a news article about that:

Meanwhile the visitors' centre at the Cliffs of Moher had to be evacuated as the winds whipped up rocks, posing a danger to visitors and staff.

Tourists were also banned from cliff walks.

"Winds were extremely dangerous with some air borne rock debris falling near the viewing platforms," said centre manager Katherine Webster.

"There were small stones and even some fist-size debris swept up by the winds.

There has been some damage to barriers but we will not be able to assess that until the storm passes.

"It wasn't safe for staff or visitors to remain on-site so everyone was evacuated during the morning. Under no circumstances should anyone proceed with a visit to the cliffs under these conditions."
Just corresponded with my cousin near Limerick... it has been a bit of a zoo there. Had to laugh, as they are experiencing colder temperatures than we have been here in western Canada on the prairies recently.

Re: 75 mph winds today, WA coast

Only a few gusts here in Issaquah last night. Kind of a letdown.

Will head down to the boat today to check on things and re-install the Webasto heater. We've been having some issues with it and after taking it in for servicing it turns out there is a manufacturing fault which is affecting others as well.

Re: 75 mph winds today, WA coast

Power went out last night around 7:30 PM.
I don't know exactly when it happened because the backup kicked in seamlessly.
Wife said the street is dark so that was the clue.
It's still out as of 12: 20 PM, but we had no wind after 4 AM.
Neighbor clocked an 82 knot gust around ten last night.
