And they do believe out there the High is going to happen. This is 96 hrs frcs now.

The other High (the one frcs over the continent) also looks like our friend.

Meanwhile poor outlook for the European side of the coin: don't even look that way.

Yes. As boatman posted above. NOAA pasted below.

Will be interesting to watch how much this materializes and how long an early system like this can hold.

One thing that is clear is why they say that the Northward window on the Portuguese coast shuts down in May ;-)

The theoretical voyage so far puts me 500nm WSW of Horta (based on vessel and weather as seen on PW) with a fair bit of motorsailing.. but no 'bad' weather.. pushed W further than I would have liked.

May 6 update:

High 1030 visible in the analysis way out Westwards from the Azores. I do not know what makes this 'offset'. I like the pressure even tough it seems a bit high for this time of the year. Note the Low and the associated storm forming on the NE of our favourite system - this one will cause trouble not just for Transat bakerly.

The 96 chartlet shows that am Low in full swing and the central High deflated. A new High is expected to supplement it coming in from the West. This is a good news and we hope this pattern will continue.

Definitely unseasonal weather all round..
Normally here in Portugal we have temp's in the mid to high 20c's this time of year.. plenty of sunshine and busy beaches..
Instead it struggles to hit 20c .. current average is around 15c...
Below is todays Passage Weather report and the prediction for the 16th...

Yep. That huge Low off Portuguese coast sure added its touch to the picture.

May 9 update from NOAA sources:

The analysis shows a favourable "" development with the High displaced Northwards and stationary. There is more high pressure to the left of the image if you look.

The 96hrs frcst shows the high pressure swiftly floating over to where we generally want it to be. More high pressure rolling in from the West and some fronts to top it off. I have no opinion on the fronts but it is good to notice they are expected to be there.

I will look up the longest gribs now see what the 4days+ models "think".

Horta is looking busy.. boats rafted up on the wall and looks like at least 5 on the hook so it seems April crossings went well and I'll have plenty of theoretical company after my theoretical crossing..

Not too busy yet... The fuel dock side is still empty. Speaking of space, does anyone know how many slips are reserved for the ARC? We've got friends on their way to Horta, but they are wondering if there will be space available.

They do not normally allow anchoring in Horta unless they are full including rafting up 3-4 deep on the reception/fuel dock.. so either they are saving that space or.. some work is being carried out.

Yeah, we tried to anchor there, but were sent back to a slip before the hook was even down. I didn't know they also raft up at reception too... That's good to know for your friends.

Why should they be reserved? They are normally full up. First come first served, I think.

There is normally plenty of space in S Miguel though.

You can reserve a table in a restaurant but not the one where people are seated at, eating.

There's a good anchorage at Praia de Vitoria in Terciera as well.. Flores is also a stop for many boats coming from Bermuda.
