winless questions

I have a 3396 Carver , I use a dauntless 16pound anchor and it holds good.
I need to add a windless to retrieve the anchor . (getting old and weaker)
the boat weight about 12,000 LB . it looks to me like a 1/4 high test chain should be adequate. however some of the stories I have read says you should go one bigger than recommended. and a comparable winch like a lewellen.
some of the people who answer these threads are quite knowledgeable. they have saved me from making errors on type of glue for dingy repair. hopefully you can send my in the right direction on this

Re: winless questions

Hi Skipperbob,

I'm not familiar with a Dauntless anchor but regardless, I think 16 lbs it much to small for a 33' power boat. Maybe if you are just anchoring for a couple of hours in very nice weather and always on board that would be ok but for anything more I would go at least double that size.

With the 30-35 lb anchor a 5/16" chain would be a good size.

Several good options for a windlass for this setup. I'm not up on new windlasses but I'm sure you will get some recommendations for brands and models.

Re: winless questions

Take a look at the Maxwell's. Decent value windless.
