Source for Grade B Peerless Peer-Lift shackles
The current issue of "Practical Sailor" gives its highest recommendation for anchor shackles to Grade B shackles first of all (the are 2x the strength of Grade A) and specifically those from Peerless, the Peer-Lift marine shackles.
They are give high marks to the Crosby shackles and some others.
However, the Peerless website only offers Grade A shackles. The 3/8" shackles has a WLL of 1 Ton. The PS article shows a Grade B shackle with a WLL of 2 Tons.
Has anyone seen Grade B shackles from Peerless? I have sent inquiries to PS and to Peerless but have not heard back yet.

Perfect! Many thanks B-B! I got a response from Peerless support and they did not find this part, only the Grade A shackle, despite me specifically asking for Grade B. For some reason they do not list it under the Marine Anchor section. I tried searching on Grade B shackles and several different ways and no joy.
I just looked it up with a distributor and they sell it for $2.95 each. Can hardly believe that. I am sure shipping will be 4-5x that.
The Forum comes through again.

From Starr Products they were $2.95 each plus $31.95 for shipping. On EBay they were $2.99 each and $9.99 shipping, and, they will come from Starr Products. I ordered 4.

Part number . . . . . : 8058403
Description . . . . . : 3/8 ALLOY SPAS, HDG, UPC
Meets the following;
Meet and exceed Fed Spec RR-C-271
ASME B30.26
Galvanized to ASTM A153
The above is all we carry for alloy shackles. Now I am not sure if the (B) you are referring to is the B that is indicted ion the ASME spec. We do not classify them by a grade A or grade B.
Thanks"
They do indeed classify them as Grade A or B, but the A is the only one in the Marine section, for some reason.

Re: Source for Grade B Peerless Peer-Lift shackles
Crosby G209A is a 3/8" alloy shackle with a 7/16" alloy pin, and a WLL of 2 T
Personally, I would choose Crosby - proven track record, US made, etc.
The last Peerless chain I purchased arrived with rust patches on it.
Since both Peerless and Crosby alloy shackles have the same specs, I would go with the Crosby.

Thanks nitpick! The more info the better. The Crosby shackles are available from Defender for about $15.
The price given me from Starr Products looks too low. Practical Sailor says they might be counterfeit. I have been told that the Peerless products are US made but haven't checked that out for myself. If the shackles I get are not up to snuff I will send them back and inform the vendor. They are presented as Peerless products.
I may just order the Crosby shackles though and be certain. This is not a place on the boat for low quality parts!

Because the are NOT marine shackles, but are (Alloy) Hoisting shackles.

You are right - even though they are called anchor shackles. Must be a generic term with some other meaning.
