Sizing Chain to Gypsy

I think I already know the answer to this one but I have a 3/8" gypsy with 3/8" chain of dubious parentage in three sections connected wth C-links. I would like to replace it with chain I can trust. Trouble is, the boat is in Langkawi. The local supplier for Acco has suspended shipments for now. I can get some 10mm chain made in Australia but it seems just a bit big on the gypsy. It runs over it OK but I worry about how it would behave under tension. I'm told that this chain has been used on 3/8" gypsies without trouble. The chain I have is 35 links/meter whereas the Australian stuff is 33.5 links/meter.

Question is; can I get away with using this chain or would I be better off continuing the search for 3/8" chain in a metric world?

Mike

Why not get in touch with the manufacturer of the windlass? That's what I did with my Maxwell, and got a ton of information.........i2f
