I bought the Manson Supreme and found its not that great in weeds, as I was led to beleave, it is better than my spade , but in weeds/rocks its not as good as my cheap local grapeling type anchor - in the Med

Ethnic group: Sweden
Religion: Catholic. They have the coolest hats
Worst Religion: Methodists - they don't see the power of cool hats
McGregor & guns: yes
Country screw: Democrats - but that is ok, they have better looking Swedish Methodist hating Catholics packing guns on their McGregor.

In rocks a grapnel is the best, they are usually a lot cheaper to replace

But do you know what's down there all the time, that's the tricky bit.

Most of the time its easy to read what the bottom is if you have a high quility sounder and have spent enough time and time on reading them, I can see if the bottom is weeds how tall they are or a mix of rocks , sand ect, also I always look overboard to conferm when the vis is good,
The MS anchor I am some what happy with because your never gonna find one anchor to do it alll, I think better than the spade I have onboard in all ways-I did buy it for weeds and its not that good - just ok- but then we have 3 feet of weeds common in Greece, so I also have a grappel type anchor that works best

No argument with that Ram.

Just for some of us who have had some spectacular electronic meltdowns while at sea we can struggle to trust things wired into a battery. I've often got them but often never turn them on. About the only 2 electrical things used extensively are the speedo (I just like to know) and stereo

Weed and grass are an anchors nemesis. Will be for quite a while I think. Saying that we are playing with one that does seem to deal with them well but it's early days so we'll see.

I have a 121 pound Rocna and I am very pleased with it. I have not read any shred of evidence that there is any whit of difference between Rocna and Manson. I think the performance is the same - that is, excellent.

if the anchore dont work,
it will be on you.

even if it is a gemany made on , or a new down under one.
it has to work............

maybe its just good to put out a lot of chain, and it will do the job.

have a nice weekend.

Thumbs up Just Say No

Just say No to fancy anchors, snake oil salesmen, short obese women carrying bibles, Republicans, Torries, and securities merchants......shaved head men with tattoos carrying guns....

NoNONoNo............

Say yes to beautiful agnostic female Swede's, good beer and proven gear...no fads or trends (except thong bikini's)..

The Spade, Rocna and Manson Supreme are near identical anchors. Would expect performance to be pretty similar. No anchor is good in all conditionsm, however. A Danforth style is the best anchor for thick mud, Fisherman/grapnel for weeds. The plow type anchors, Delta, CQR, Spade, Manson, Rocna are the best all around anchors with the latter being the best of these types.

We anchored with a 45# CQR on our 20,000# displacement boat and never dragged in nearly 2 years of 24/7 anchoring.

While no doubt I have not read every post, I have found some of Craig's posts very helpful. Every sales pitch is designed to show the advantages of a product and usually contains a certain amount of fact and a bit of spin. The wise consumer gets to know where one has finished and the other has started. If I had a superb product to sell (which I do) and employed salesman to sell it (which I do) I would get the most enthusiastic person with the most belief in the product to do the selling. It goes with the personality type that sometimes they might overstep the mark a little. Once comments are out there, it's hard to take them back. If this is the case he is certainly not alone on this forum.

This thread was two years old before it was bounced by the less than erudite post re the grapnel anchor.

Manson's knock-off is discussed here:

I lost my Manson Supreme Anchor 45lb last year along with the chain rode (long story) and I went right out and bought a new one 60 lb MS put it in my suit case and flew it from Florida to Greece- I could not be happier with this anchor- and by the way I like Craig’s posts, hes been helpful- I must have missed the posts that were off colored – the Manson Supreme may or may not be as good as the Ronca, but it’s good enough for me as it works and works perfectly, in just about all conditions, and it’s cheaper- I think I paid around $550 for the 60 lb MS so it was a bit cheaper than Ronca at a few hundred more

Manson's knock-off is discussed here:
Funny how you enjoy speaking against the competitors.... all while ignoring the fact you have ruined your products reputation by outsourcing it to China. Say what you will, no one is likely to accept the superiority of tools, shackles, or anchors made in China.
