Rocna made in PRC

My new anchor arrived a Rocna 33 !
Had a sticker on it saying Designed in New Zealand Made in PRC
Even the company advertising it reckons they are made in Canada.
Bit dissapointed as the quality is not that of my friends...
Even the doc that it comes with refers to a galvanising vent that doesn't exist.
I know almost everything is made in the PRC but I am also watching the closure of the steel industry in the UK
I feel they should be more honest as to where they make them and price accordingly.
They cant even stick the rocna labels on straight.
Hope it at least works like an original.
And putting PRC as opposed to China on the label doesn't fool anybody.. OK rant over

One of the hallmarks of a quality product is the truth in advertising said product.

Gosh, I seem to remember some similar issues with this company in the past... a few owners ago. Or is this anchor that you have some old stock?

CMP's wholly-owned subsidiary in China manufactures the anchors; says so right on their website - Rock Solid Technology | Rocna Anchors // Rock Solid

Who's website was that on? CMP has never made it a secret that the anchors are made in China. Their chain and anodes are also made in China. Their new Vulcan anchors, also made in China, have the best looking welding and galvanizing I've ever seen on an anchor. Time will tell if they hold up.

Anyone interested in buying a Rocna or Vulcan, my employees will be in the CMP booth at the Ft. Lauderdale boat show starting Thursday. I'm going to work up some really good prices.

What about their Titan chain? Any deals on a half barrel of G4 5/16"

Re: Rocna made in PRC

Matt, I'll see what I can come up with. Why don't you send me an email through my website or a PM here on CF?

Emmalina, I think it was the chandleries mistake. Why don't you let them know about it?

I'm personally not quite understanding what your 'rant' is over
YES, they are made in China and yes, China is known as the PRC. Has been for decades. How can they be any more honest than clearly displaying where they are made on the anchors and on their web site?

Your 'they should price accordingly' I think is what your really getting at. You expect something to be made in China to be a lot cheaper, regardless of the quality, is that what your really after?

I think your post reeks of ethnocentrism

Ok first they clearly show made in canada on the wib site ! Secondly they sell in Thailand for between 32000thb and 46000thb that is between 950-1400USD now my friends original Rocna made in NZ cost 580NZD so as steel prices have gone down some 40% in this time and labour in China is a lot cheaper than NZ its a case of maths. Plus whenever things go mass production quality is the first crack in the wall. I wasn't on the Rocna site I was on the distributors site ! Call it what you may .

The Rocna web page clearly states they are made in China. You can't get more honest than that.

Steel prices for the past five years have gone up, not down. At least in Australia. I would imagine it's the same most places.

I purchased a Rocna 25 three years ago for about $890 Aus. It's quality is solid. I'm very happy with it.

Re: Rocna made in PRC

I believe they were once made in Canada so maybe your chandler is using very old info on their web site.

There are now old and dodgy Chinese Rocnas and new 'who knows' Chinese Rocnas out there.

Mine is a 2008 NZ built one I am quite happy with... however my dealings with the family Smith between 2009 and 2012 left a very bad taste in my mouth and they are people I would prefer to have no dealings with.

Wasn't there a year Ping with soft shanks or something like that?

And I heard something about them offering replacement ones.
