Nilsson Windlass Parts

Hello:

I have contacted Maxwell about parts for a Nilsson v1000 windlass and they say that they no longer make parts for it. Does anyoneknow where I can get parts for the windlass. It operates fine now but I am missing the manual handle to use in case of electrical failure.

Charlie - I have an old electric windlass (Galley Maid !!!??!!!) that I had to fabricate a handle for. I just WISH it was for manual use ... it was just to tighten and loosen the clutch plates. Went to a local metals shop, found some aluminum plate - had them cut it so I had two handles and drilled a couple of holes, tap it, put in a couple of screws to act as PINS - works great. AND - didn't cost me the $65 plus shipping that Galley Maid wanted. (Total cost for two handles: $25)

you could keep an eye on <www.trademe.co.nz> (google) in NZ as the Nillson windlasses were made here and they often come up for sale 2nd hand. good luck.

How about ringing James Nilsson Ltd.
It think you'll be able to guess why just from the name

Ph 09 4445219

James made winches and then Mr Maxwell joined him hence Nilsson Maxwell winches. After a while they decided to go seperate ways hence we have Nilsson's and Maxwell. James Nilsson (son of now) still makes many winches for themselves, Lewmar and Harken amongst others.

Sorry I didn't see you were that far away so add **64 to the front. Maybe fax to **64 9 4445222 and they do have email but no idea what it is sorry.

Steve.
North Shore there mate. No JAFA's this side of the bridge only the nice people.

North Shore City, NZ's 4th largest and at the current growth rate we will take over Christchurch in 4 years.

Also home to the Ranfurly Shield, Oh ya baby, suck up that one way down south

Maxwell have very recently had a couple staff changes and whomever they spoke to may just not have known the history. The old lot were there for quite a while, one or 2 looked it as well Hi JB

Another old Nilsson Windlass

Hi Guys. I'm basically new here and also searching for some info on and older apparently Nilsson horizontal windlass that is on a '84 52' Hudson I recently aquired. I have already followed up with GordMays addresses for Nilsson but haven't heard back yet and would like your insite
I can,t find any ID on the casing but but both the rope and rope/chain gypsy's are stamped Nilsson NZ. I am hoping the rest is theirs also. The clutch(?) levers do not seem to work and I am not sure if it has a down gear lever or not. There is only one SP foot switch and it operates in up haul (at least right now).. .
.
Any help as to the model type of operation and spefics of operaration, or a location for a even an operators manual you would save me much hair puliing.
Thanks

Hi Rick, I have just spoken with a rep of James Nilsson and he assures me that they can supply parts for your winch, web <www.jamesnilsson.com> email<sales@jamesnilsson.co.nz>
phone 0064 9 4445219,
He asked that you email them the photo's that you posted on the forum so they can identify your winch. My email is <pappas@xtra.co.nz> if you run into further difficulties.
Good Luck.

I had a very good experience with Nilsson. I decided to buy an all new windlass rather than repair a 25 year old one. At the time the NZ dollar was approaching 50 cents so I felt that it was a good time to buy.

What you have there is the Nilsson H3000.
These were designed as a single direction winch.
We have a motor and adaptor kit to make is dual direction.
There are some parts that we still manufacture as spares for this winch.
