I think it is prudent that the results be published first as it will invoke a far greater audience. Once they have been published i will also place them on all forums.

Re: New West Marine Recall on Rocna Anchors

Practical Sailor has a write up on West Marine statement in the Sept. 2011 issue. They end the article with:

"If you believe you have a Rocna made of the "alternate metal" and would like to have it tested, contact PS at practicalsailor@belvoirpubs.com."

Second, the Manson is made of alloy that is quite a bit stronger than what Rocna now says they are using, although they sometimes say that what they use is a "trade secret", which I translate to mean they reserve the right to use whatever steel is on hand.

So while the wheel test wasn't scientific, all the empirical data we have indicates that the Rocna is going to be the substandard performer when stacked against its most obvious analog.

Re: New West Marine Recall on Rocna Anchors

Dropped my Rocna at WM yesterday.

They did not know about what is happening so I left the notice from WM with them.

They said my Supreme should be here in a week or so.

I figured West (and Manson) would be sold out by now but they said WM have ordered (and know they will be shipped) seven of them.

Therapy it might be useful for you to comment on your perception of the build quality between the two products when you get your Manson.

I'm no judge of welds or galvanizing.

Like posted earlier a weld can be ugly and still be better than a pretty one. Mine looked like the ugly one from the OP.

My galvanizing looked rough which according to one post is a good sign.

So I dunno.

It was one with the Rocna cast into the fluke. No serial number so no way to tell right?
