No. Not one that will work anyway.

Can you? Yes.

Should you? Probably not, unless your just using it as a form for the concrete that will also encapsulate a chain/bar system.

Re: Make a mooring with a rubbish bag?

Do a search in this forum, there is a lot of good info. on moorings
As previously suggested using cement blocks are a very good idea as a weight and the cement is relatively cheap.
Here is a primer on setting up a mooring and how much weight to use if in an exposed or protected area. https://www.jamestowndistributors.co....do?docId=1107

I'm not condoning the 800# garbage bag idea at all but how would you handle 1 large object like that and then launch it safely? Would think 100# cement blocks maybe easier and safer to handle.

Re: Make a mooring with a rubbish bag?

A quick search shows the specific gravity of sand to be around 1.6. This means that your 800 kg of sand, when immersed in water, will weigh only around 500 kg... even before it is washed away by the action of the water, or the attachments fail from chafe.

This in no way is an adequate mooring for your boat.

Well Bill, where I am we’d drive the package out on the ice, fill the bag, tie it to the shore and wait until April. YMMV

For a few reasons it’s a dumb idea.

Growing up in Michigan, I get the idea of driving on ice and doing it that way. I hope you don't use sand bags for moorings though!

I'm not certain the OP has the same possibilities as you and if they live by you and are asking now they will have a year to drive it out on the ice.

Thanks. How does one tie 100 cement bricks together? Is there a link to this method?

They were ~ 100 lb. blocks (could be larger). Would need to set an eye or U-bolt in the cement block to run a chain through them, then connect them together.

Something like this but on a smaller scale depending on how you can deploy them.

Re: Make a mooring with a rubbish bag?

NO you can not, use a bag of sand for a mooring.

You could use a cast iron mooring of at least 400lbs in most locations.

Re: Make a mooring with a rubbish bag?

One idea I have seen in my area is to use a engine block from a junkyard, degreased , with a chain run through it. They bury themselves in the sand bottom and hold well.
