How to rig a snubber with 8-plait

This may seem like a dumb question, but so be it... How do you most easily rig a snubber to 8-plait anchor rope?

Not sure why you would need a snubber to line since it has give already. Generally snubbers are for chain rode that doesn't have any give to it.

BUT if you need a snubber tie it to the 8-plait. Lots of knots will work. I used a Prussik knot.

Rat Tail Stopper Knot (Sometimes referred to as a Chinese Stopper Knot) is a good way to control lines under tension... but as Skipmac said why are you snubbing an anchorline?

8-Plait Anchor Line does stretch less than three strand, but shouldn't need a snubber.

Re: How to rig a snubber with 8-plait

Thanks for the responses. My thinking is that since my anchor rode is 50 feet of chain and then 250 feet of 8-plait, there might be times when anchoring in fairly shallow water (I draw only 4 1/2 feet, with a displacement of 20,000 lbs.) when there might not be enough rode out to get much stretch in the 8-plait. So, I thought perhaps a snubber could be helpful. As always, I appreciate the assistance from this forum.

Re: How to rig a snubber with 8-plait

I have had basically the same anchoring gear as that in the past and I found that if I had enough rope to reach the water there was enough snubbing action for all but the worst conditions. If you need more bounce just tie off a piece (about 20 feet) of 3/8" nylon to the anchor/rope connection point and use that, then when you need more rode for some reason just let the end go over the side, and you'll retrieve it when the anchor comes in. At that point you'll have 20+ feet of 8-plait out and that would be a pretty good snubber.

Re: How to rig a snubber with 8-plait

Seems to me there was another thread recently asking a very similar question, although might not have specified 8-plait. Lots of knots discussed. You might do a search for that...
