We bent one a few years ago when we broached during a race rounding a mark and ran into it - it was a reef marker pole <- yep, just like that.

I've a modern anchor on back order now, so I'm looking forward to it.
I'm surprised about that. We have a Danforth and we have 2 bottom types where I am. Sand and mud. When in mud, I a lot of times have to cleat the rode off and put the boat in gear to break it free. Then when it comes up I have to keep dunking the anchor to get all the mud off of it.

Now I have a mental image of a person whacking a palm tree with their anchor shank, getting conked by a falling coconut and having the anchor fall on their toes as they pass out!

Maybe I will grab my camera and go try to convince one of these people with bent anchors to try this…

would you trust this bent Manson supreme anchor?

This an oversize, 60 pound anchor on a 40 foot cat. No known recent storms or snaggings to cause the damage.
2 years ago it did fine in 55 knot gusts with only 1.5 inches dug into hard sand. It didn't drag or bend.
I am told to just have it straightened and keep using it.

Re: How Common are Bent Anchors?

Boy... that's getting pretty rusty. It's a Manson I guess? I'd just straighten it. It's likely it hung up on and embedded rock or something. What is that Chinese galvanizing?

Re: How Common are Bent Anchors?

I don't think Manson sends their anchors to China for galvanizing. It is possible that it is a frequently-used, older anchor?

I can't imagine that it bent without being caught on something. The Manson has a bit more of a fragile unsupported tip than the Rocna, and it looks like just this part bent? If so, I don't see any problem with bending it back. If it weakens so it bends again or breaks, just grind it to a point back at the meaty part and it will be the same profile as the Rocna.

You are a brave to anchor with just 1.5 inches of anchor buried! Did it make you wonder why you paid for the whole rest of the thing?
