Hi, I have a Simpson Lawrence Windlass. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the model is, any info on it, what I could sell it for, etc. Your help is greatly appreciated! Thank you

As to the windlass it looks similar to one at Not all who wander....are lost: Old guys rule....

If it's the same allegedly it's a SL500 model believed to date from the early 50's.

Give it a look.

Greetings and welcome aboard the CF, Cari.

Sorry to say, but neither appear (to me) to be worth be worth ”much”.

If you were in Hawaii I would be looking to purchase. I can't tell you what model it is but looks robust and salty.

Re: Help with a windlass

Hi. I am very interested in this windlass if it is still available as my identical 40 year old one has finally died on me.

It looks as though Cari is a rare poster and may not visit the forum often. Is there any way I can contact her/him? I assume a PM will not get delivered to his/her email and would only be picked up by a visit to the forum?

Thanks

Welcome to the forum John.

If you go to the member's home page and click on the contact details, some members allow contact via email as well as PM. The OP has clicked this option so the system will send a message to their email. The email address is not displayed, but of course you can send them yours.

It is not a good idea to list your email address in the open forum, but addresses exchanged via the above system, or via a private message are safe providing you trust the member receiving them.

I wouldn't give you two cents for a manual windlass but I did sell one in much nicer shape for $25.00 if that's any help.

Re: Help with a windlass

I just old one of those last year after using it for 30 years on my boat. It is very reliable, never failed on thouusands of occasions to use it. It is dual speed and quite powerful with its three foot handle. It is the SL500 as someone mentioned , heavy but much better than the SL555.
I sold it for $400, have anther one without the gypsy that I would like to flog. I no longer own the boat so no need for it.

Yours looks to be in great condition, so I would say 4-500 dollars would not be out of line.
By the way, I paid about $500 for it new from Westerrn Marine in 1975.
