Brion Toss' book The Riggers Apprentice has excellent instruction on how to splice just about anything including rope-to-chain, wire-to-rope and wire-to-wire. The new and revised edition is a wonder in valuable rigging information and well worth the price. I'm also quite sure it is available on the used market.
