Tyler,

At the risk of sounding like a wise guy, wouldn't you want your first Forum post to present you in a good light? Sadly, the first though that came to mind when I read your post was that I hoped you weren't an English major.

What is your major going to be, anyway?

Greetings and welcome aboard the CF, Tyler.

Why does ther got to be away to live cheap on you're boat?
How do I sign up for that entitlement?

tylertyler,
Welcome aboard CF AND reality... I didn't know there was free anchoring in False Creek - there's limits on stays (14 days during the summer) and moorage for free? Not in Vancouver. Maybe you can make arrangements with a marina manager/owner to exchange moorage and power for odd jobs/caretaking what-have-you. Good luck. Great city but expensive. Cheers,
Bill

Tyler,
There's very cheap - not free - liveaboard moorage over on Mitchell Island, in the Fraser River. I'd suggest you take a trip down River Road, East Richmond, & see if you could find something cheap. If you're lacking a vehicle/friend to drive you, message me & I'd be happy to spend a day or two driving you around.

I don't understand your criticisms Alan & Gord.

Mike

Hi Tyler

There is a livaboard forum/ website started for livaboards in BC. You may want to search for it.

I've noticed Bedford Bay looked like decent anchorage. Does anyone have experience with or knowledge of it? It's up the arm across from Deep Cove.

Bedwell Bay.

Yes!
I have been there. It’s open to Northerly outflow winds from Indian Arm but usualy a very calm anchorage with good holding in mud. You would not want to try livaboard at anchor there, unless you want to be very isolated. You could try Port Moody there are quite a few boats moored there and access to town.

There are not many good anchorages up Indian arm. It drops off very quickly.

Hey Tyler,
I think Mike's respone warrants a "thanks" so he can get an extra star. Mike - great post and great approach - you confirm the view that boaters rock - and not just becasue of round bottoms!
As to some of the other posts - this is a forum - different opinions are what makes it interesting. Moreover, different perspectives frequently provide a greater range of information. Let's not get too personal (a little is ok). I don't think Tyler got the warmest welcome (not even from me) - but everyone is entitled to a point of view. C'mon guys. As to Indian Arm, Not a place to live aboard.... Tyler - where are you going to go to school? If its UBC then you want something within Vancouver..... Cheers,
Bill

I've been living very cheaply on my boat, but only by avoiding the big cites. Can't think of anything in Vancouver ,outside of False Creek, but with the number of Vancouver people on this site , hopefully they will find you something. Good luck.
