Flaking vs/ piling

A friend of mine recently offered to flake the anchor rode while I wrestled the beast from the depths. However, I have always been of the school that holds a "best to leave it alone" attitude. Which is preferred. Does it really matter.

I lean toward piling, at least in a locker. The looped ends of a flake always seem to make a knot, the loop ends o a pile sometimes seem to make a knot. ALL CHAIN RODE!
